Stakeholders in the Education sector yesterday convened to address and proffer solutions to the major challenges facing the education sector across Africa, exploring the theme ‘‘Strengthening Education Systems; Delivering Effective Teaching and Learning.’’

The Nigerian Education Innovation Summit (NEDIS), a two-day event which was organized and hosted annually by The Education Partnership (TEP) center started yesterday, Thursday 4th July, 2019 at Workforce, Gbagada.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Tom Rudmik, CEO/Founder Master’s Academy College, Canada spoke about ‘Education needs Transformation,’ addressing the major causes of same style of education. He said that because Education was a system in itself, it has not changed but the future work has changed.

He said the role of education was to prepare students for the future, hence he talked about the need for the curriculum to be reviewed with the inclusion of so many things that should be taught in schools. He stressed the need for personalization and digital connection, imaginal projects, creativity test etc., with much emphasis on the fact that rote learning focuses majorly on test scores which is not the best way to evaluate learning.

‘‘Who the students are becoming is important than what they get. The government has not created curriculum for innovation so that students can learn from the future. Most of what we do in education is about the past and our students are beginning to be an imaginal leader,’’ he said.

The delegates and speakers had time to interact through plenary sessions, parallel sessions and special sessions. Dissecting many challenges and proffering solutions that can be implemented to cause a major change in the education section.

The event was well attended across the African continent and would continue today.
