Dr Jamiu Abdullahi, a lecturer in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Kogi State University, Anyigba, reportedly died of High Blood Pressure (HBP)
The Late Dr Abdullahi was said to have slumped while awaiting his test result in the hospital on Thursday, 4th July, 2019.
According to source from the family, the deceased could not afford treatment of the ailment that eventually took his life, due to salaries not paid for several months by the Kogi State Government.
Speaking to journalists, the family revealed that Lecturers in the university last collected their salaries in February, 2019, adding that when the situation became worse, the lecturer eventually died because they could not raise money for treatment.
“The family of the deceased could not take him to a better hospital because of lack of fund. The deceased had nothing in his account as he had not been regularly paid by the State government.”
The corpse of the lecturer was taken to his home in Iyamoye, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State and had since been buried according to Islamic rites.
When contacted, the Kogi State University Public Relations Officer, Mr Jacob Edegbo confirmed the death of the lecturer. He, however noted that his death had nothing to do with unpaid salaries.
According to him, “Late Dr Abdullahi has been sick for some time. When he went to the hospital for check-up, before the result came out, he gave up the ghost,” he stated.
