Edo State Trains Youth in Engineering Skills

About 100 indigenes of Edo State have benefitted from the six-week skill acquisition training organised by the state government in collaboration with Young Engineers Programme and the CADD Centre Nigeria.

Speaking at the ceremony in Benin City on Friday 9th August, 2019, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Skills Development and Job Creation, Mrs Ukinebo Dare, stated that the training provided opportunities for the participants to be equipped with prerequisite skills that could promote self-sustenance in the engineering sector.

While commending the trainees for believing in the vision of Governor Godwin Obaseki to create 200,000 jobs, Mr Dare noted that the government looked forward to seeing the trainees’ contribution to keep Edo State at the centre of economic development in Nigeria.

A Technical Partner on the programme and Executive Director, Riverbank Technologies and Engineering Limited, Mr Ayoola Jolayemi, explained that the company, which has equipped people with skills in engineering designs, had trained about 10,754 people in Nigeria, including the 100 beneficiaries who completed their training programme in Edo State.

He also commended the participants’ perseverance throughout the training period, adding that a good design is paramount to the success of engineering projects.

“We are glad that we have imparted knowledge to people in Edo in engineering designs which will make the state rich in engineering skills,” he said.

Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Benin branch, Mr Jonathan Ekhoediarehi, thanked the Governor Obaseki led-administration for organising the training which he said had equipped young engineers with the required skills and field knowledge to practise.

He enjoined the trainees to see themselves fortunate to have participated in the programme and urged them to put the knowledge acquired into practice. One of the beneficiaries, Miss Faith Idahosa, said the training programme had equipped her with practical knowledge in using computer software to further her engineering profession.
