EKSU: Management Suspends Tax Regime

Written by Akeem Alao

The management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti on Friday 27th September, 2019 suspended the implementation of the new tax policy introduced to the staff of the institution.

The suspension was as a result of the reaction of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that the decision of the management of the university to introduce a new tax regime to be paid by staff was inappropriate.

Reacting to the policy in Ado-Ekiti, the ASUU-EKSU Chairman, Dr Kayode Arogundade, said members of the union had been subjected to poor treatment with non-payment of their nine months salaries, adding that the new tax regime must be aborted.

In their reaction to the tax policy, workers in their large number disrupted activities at the university by barricading the entrance to the administrative block to press home their demands.

A statement by EKSU Head, Directorate of Information, Bode Olofinmuagun, said the management had decided to put the policy on hold.

According to him: “Management agreed to meet with the national leadership of ASUU to further deliberate on the implementation of the new tax regime.”
