Yobe State: Universal Basic Education Board Chairman Teaches at Primary School

In a bid to improve the basic education in his state, the new chairman of Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board and immediate past Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University, Prof. Musa Alabe, has announced his intention to take up a teaching job at the primary schools in the state.

Prof. Alabe who spoke to journalists on Tuesday 12th November, 2019 in Damaturu said he aspired to improve the quality of education in the state and prove to the primary school teachers that they belong to the best profession.

“This is a call to service. This is a state service I developed when I was the Dean of Faculty of Engineering at Bayero University, Kano. I developed the promotion guidelines for Covenant University. I did so many things. Our Basic education is the most important of all sectors of education. We are building the future of our state and I am happy to part of that,” he said.

We need to improve the system. I want to tell you here categorically that I will take over teaching in primary school to show the importance primary school education.

He pointed out that primary school teachers in other countries earn the highest salaries but the converse is the case in Nigeria.

He stated that his intention was to bring out the importance of teaching in primary school.

“Every week, I will be going round to teach in the primary schools. I want to be part of the teachers and make them proud and convince them that they have chosen the best profession,” Prof. Alabe declared.
