Mushin LG: Primary School Pupils Display Skills at Inter-School Debate

Pupils of primary schools in Mushin Local Government yesterday enliven the mood of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, as they presented motions for and against the border closure order of the APC led government of President Muhammad Buhari.

At the grand finale of the debate competition organised by Mushin Local Government in conjunction with Remmy-King Communications, the three schools which qualified for the final, entertained the guests with display of diction, grammatical accuracies and presentation of logical facts.

The qualifying schools are: Igbehin Adun (Public) Primary School, Alaba (public) Primary School and Mac Patra (private) Primary School.

Igbehin Adun (Primary School won the 1st prize with 98 points, Mac Patra (Private) pry sch came 2nd with 97 points while Alaba (public) pry sch clinched the 3rd position with 70 points.

The entire guests in the council hall were surprised as the pupils presented reasonable facts on why the borders should remain closed or reopened.

The pupils highlighted what the Nigerian local industries and farmers have benefitted so far since 21st August, 2019, when the land borders were closed. They also cited examples like China and some countries who have transformed and developed their countries through border closure.

On the other hand, pupils who spoke against the border closure were emotional as they created empathic feeling for the neighbouring countries who should be enjoying from Nigeria as big brother but being maltreated and oppressed against the rules of ECOWAS.

The chairman in his speech was full of excitement to see pupils at this level understanding and presenting facts for and against federal government policies. He stated that these pupils are no doubt our trusted and reliable future leaders.

He confirmed that the debate was deliberate in order to discover the talents in our children and to instill the confidence that students in public schools in Lagos State are of quality standard to compete with their private school counterparts at any level.

He concluded that the best way to secure the future of our communities, state and the nation as a whole was to invest in educational development.

Gifts and cash prizes were awarded to the schools for their performance.

The event was also attended by the Vice chairman, Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe, Deputy House Leader, Hon. Muritala Oyeniyi, H.O.S. School Support Service ( Mushin L. G. E. A.) Mrs. O. R Adetunji, Supervisor for Education, Hon. Taofeek Ojebola, all the councillors, Supervisors, chairman’s aides and other academic professionals including a special guest, Mr. Mofopefoluwa Joseph.

The chairman promised to make the programme an annual event.
