The National Examinations Council (NECO) has debunked the news about the postponement of the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) due to the ravaging pandemic in the country.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday 8th April, 2020, by NECO’s Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Mallam Azeez Sani.

He stated that the examination body only announced the postponement of the 2020 National Common Entrance (NCEE) due to COVID-19 outbreak. He, however urged the general public to disregard the trending news about the postponement.

“The Council has not reviewed any of its remaining Examination Time Tables (BECE) and (SSCE), neither is it contemplating such for now,” he said.

“The general public have been urged to disregard such fake news, as the Council is monitoring the prevailing situation in the country and will make official pronouncement on the examinations if the need arises,” Mallam Sani added.
