FG Releases Funds for Nigerian Students Abroad
Despite the ravaging pandemic across the globe, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, Mr Emeka Nwajiuba, has disclosed that Nigerians on scholarships abroad have been paid through their various embassies.
This was disclosed on Monday, 11th May, 2020, at the news briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.
Mr Nwajiuba stated that the money had reached the embassies in United Kingdom, Russia and other countries.
He added that the Nigerian embassy in United Kingdom had confirmed receipt of payment.
“The money was paid this afternoon by the Central Bank of Nigeria. It has finished processing all the money and forwarded to appropriate countries,” he said.
He stated that the Nigerian embassy in Russia, which had yet to confirm receipt of payment as of yesterday, would get it before the close of work.
Reacting to a report of a parent who complained about non-payment of the money since January, the minister promised to look into the matter.
He affirmed that the delay could be as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nwajiuba, however, assured that the CBN is working to sort out the payment.
