JIBWIS Establishes University, Awaits NUC Accreditation

The National Chairman, Jama’atu Izalatil Bidi’a Wa Iqamatul Sunnah, JIBWIS, Sheikh Bala Lau, has announced plans to establish an Islamic University in Jigawa State.

Jigawa State Government had earlier allocated 65hectares of land to the group for the establishment of a university at Hadejia Local Government Area of the state on July 23, 2018.

JIBWIS affirmed receiving the certificate of land allocation through the Emir of Hadejia, Abubakar Maje.

On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Mr Lau revealed that a seven-man team of prominent professors engaged by the organization came up with an academic master plan for the take-up of the institution.

He noted that, the organisation would soon present a proposal to the National University Commission, NUC, for accreditation.

“We have received over N100million donations from spirited individuals, corporate organizations and many Nigerians.

“In fact, we have tasked ourselves to the extent that each and every member of the organization has made some donations towards the actualization of the project.

“We will never rest until the university is up and running,” he stated.

Mr Lau also informed that Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, donated the sum of N100million to the organization for setting up an Islamic institution in the state.

He noted that an ex Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, once donated a parcel of land to the Islamic organisation in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamafara State.

Speaking further, he said the donated land and the N100million donation would be used in situating an Islamic institution. This would be separate from the proposed university in Jigawa.

“We’ve set up a committee to look into what is on ground. Come up with a suitable proposal for what should be established in the Zamfara land.

“We could decide to establish an Islamic College Science and Technology. Also, we could decide to establish a centre for Islamic studies. It all depends on what the committee propose to us.

“I am assuring you that the governor’s donation and many others’ would be judiciously utilized towards actualization of the intended projects,” JIBWIS national chairman added.
