An Ondo State community, Irese Community in Ifedore Local Government Area has appealed to the state government to take over the running of the only secondary school in the town.
While appealing to the governor, the Regent of the community, Princess Damilola Falegan, stated the community is seeking the intervention of the state government so as so to control the growing rate of dropouts and vices among the youth in the community.
According to Falegan, the school was built by a Christian religious group while the community provided land for the project following the non-existence of a secondary school in the community.
She urged the government to take over the running of the school as the community could no longer afford to run it.
Falegan said, “It is not a thing of joy that a growing community like Irese which has become like a satellite community to the state capital was without a secondary school until the religious body stepped in,” she said.
“We were, therefore, happy when a religious body took the initiative of starting a secondary school for our Youths,” she added.
