The Initiative for Education and Development (IDEE) has organised e-learning programmes for students in FCT, Ogun, Yobe and Borno States
While disclosing this to Edugist correspondent, Akeem Alao, IDEE Programme Manager, Mrs Ajumbi Achegbulu, stated that the non-governmental organisation is promoting quality education, economic empowerment, youth development and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the society.
She added that students with excellent performance in the e-learning programmes were handsomely rewarded as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Between March and August this year, IDEE has organised e-learning classes for students in FCT, Ogun and Borno States to reduce the level of disruptions caused by the closure of school,” Achegbulu said.
She added that teachers were trained, parents sensitised and technology deployed to ensure that learning at the right level does not stop.
“IDEE’s intervention in Ogun State targeted over two hundred thousand, with two hundred children reached in Ogun Waterside Local Government.
“It promotes digital literacy through blended teaching and learning approaches, gave prizes and awards to the best learners as a way of encouraging them and others to take e- learning seriously as the future is turning towards that area,” she explained.
Achegbulu further stated that students from Handmaid Catholic College, Ibiade, Pathfinder College, Ibiade, Abigi Community Grammar School, Abigi, St. Kizito’s High School, Iwopin were awarded.
She therefore appealed to parents, government, teachers and school leaders to promote education technology and digital literacy in schools particularly for venerable schools communities.
Mrs Achegbulu led other team members to visit the Ogun Waterside Local Government Chairman, Comrade Femi Onanuga, to discuss areas of collaboration and partnerships on social development issues in the local government.
The Ogun State Water side (OGWS) e-learning programme that was initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown to ensure that students continued to learn ended on the 21st of September 2020
The organisers of the project decided to honour the best performing students across 4 schools on the OGWS community.
Six students were picked based on their performance and active participation on the project — 4 girls and 2 boys.
The programme helped the students to improve on their academics and they found subjects taught during the lockdown easy to understand.
The overall winner in SSS classes is Ms Maryam Okeponle of Pathfinder College, Ibiade.
The students expressed their gratitude to their parents for supporting them in the process and the organisers for thinking about them.
While appreciating the organiser of the programme, the Proprietor of Pathfinder College, Otunba Alimi, pledged to do more in raising future leaders for Ogun Waterside LGA.
