LASU VC: Final 3 Shortlisted Candidates Emerge

The Lagos State University (LASU) Joint Council and Senate Selection Committee has shortlisted the final three candidates for appointment as the 9th substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution.

The Joint Selection Committee which is statutorily headed by Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Adebayo Ninalowo, said one of the three candidates will be appointed.

The three final shortlisted candidates were selected after the last five candidates were interviewed on December 21, 2020 by the Joint Selection Committee.

After its final assessment of the applications of the various candidates, the successful internal candidates shortlisted to make the list of the top three are to be forwarded to the University’s Visitor and state Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his final consideration of the eventual appointment of the fit and worthy candidate to become the 9th substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution.

The three final shortlisted candidates are Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Professor Kabir Akinyemi and Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya.

Olatunji-Bello is a Professor of Physiology, Fellow of the Nigeria Society of Physiology and current Director of Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA).

Akinyemi, a Professor of Medical Microbiology is an indigene of Lagos State from Ikorodu Division. He is the current Director of Linkages, Partnerships and Collaboration, LASU.

He is also an Alumnus of the University and a prominent member of the Association.

Odusanya is a Professor of Public and Community Health and current Director of Research and Innovation, LASU.

For the first time in the history of LASU, the three candidates are all renowned medical scientists.

The tenure of the current Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, a Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, ends on January 11, 2021.
