Prof. Olusegun Ajiboye, the Registrar/ Chief Executive Officer, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria has warned that the Federal Government would not pardon teachers who do not possess the professional certificate of the Teachers’ Registration Council.
According to Ajiboye, the decision is part of the three-year Ministerial Strategic Plan by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu aimed at getting rid of unqualified teachers in our Nigerian schools.
He said the the council would stop the present form of registration that did not entail any examination at the end of May 2017, while the first professional qualifying examination of the TRCN would take place at the end of September 2017.
While hinting that about 1.6m teachers have registered, he said examination was designed in modules comprising category A (PhD holders), B (Master degree holders), C (Bachelor degree holders), and D (NCE holders). Ajiboye said, “By the end of 2017, Nigerian children will be taught by only qualified professional teachers who can deliver the quality education desirous for the elevation of our children and our country.”
