UITES DAZZLE AT THE WORLD MARITIME DAY/NIMASA ESSAY COMPETITION

Three students of the prestigious University of Ibadan: Adetula David, Asudemade Habeebulah and Fasiku Adekolajo of the College of Medicine, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Arts respectively dazzled at the world Maritime Day/NIMASA Competition Awards which was held on Monday 30th October, 2017 at Eko Hotels and Suites.
The students who are from different fields of study and callings, outshined their counterparts from other great institutions of learning in the nation as two of them, Adetula David of the Department of Dentistry and Dental Surgery and Asudemade Habeebulah of the Faculty of Law emerged first runner up and second runner up respectively; while the third, Fasiku Adekolajo of the prestigious Ibadan School of History got a consolation prize among the other seven who performed excellently.
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), under the able leadership of its Chief Executive Officer/ Managing Director, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, organised the world-class event and hosted important dignitaries which include Rt. Honourable Rotimi Amaechi, Honourable Minister for Transportation, Hadiza Ahmed Bala, MD, Nigerian Ports Authority, Mohammed Bello-Koko Executive Director, Finance and Administration, NPA, Dr. Sokonte H. Davies, Executive Director, Marine and Operations, NPA, and Professor Idris Abubakar, Executive Director, Engineering and Technical Services, NPA.
The event was organized to chart a way forward for the Maritime Industry in Nigeria.The theme of the event and of the essay competition is, “Connecting Ships, Ports and People.” The essay competition was organized by NIMASA in partnership with SAMUELSON to make students to share their perspectives on how the maritime environment in Nigeria could be effectively utilised.
Ten students were picked out of about 300 applicants nationwide. These students had the best performance all over Nigeria and they spread across Nigerian institutions in different parts of the nation. These Universities include, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, University of Nsukka, Enugu, University of Jos, Jos, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Benue State University, Makurdi,and the University of Lagos, Lagos. The winners won mouth-watering prizes along with substantial educational grants.
