2019 Election: Reviewing Education Promises of Presidential Candidates

Today, our guest on Elvis Boniface’s Education Dialogue on 100.5 Radio FM Lagos will be reviewing all the education promises made by the presidential candidates.

The presidential candidates in the forthcoming presidential election have promised to improve the quality and standard of Nigerian education. Today’s guest, Muyiwa Ashimolowo, a researcher, lecturer and NLP certified teacher, will discuss the reality of those promises.

The programme is on air between 6.30 pm and 7.pm. It promises to be interactive and educative.

Below are the promises to review

Ezekwesili

Sixty percent of Nigerian children did not have access to education.
The primary, secondary and tertiary education in Nigeria required comprehensive reforms.

Modernization of the teaching and training of the teachers would be our priority.
We will train the teachers and equip them with the new knowledge in the sector.

Durotoye:

Focus on improved education
Commitment to the success of the children and their future, not just to pass examination
Specialization and evaluation of teachers to keep in touch with what is going on within their field of specialization
Provision of free transportation for students to and from schools
Enforcement of punitive measure against any parents that do not allow their children to go to school
Establishment of evening programme to accommodate those who could not go for morning classes.

Intensification of efforts to end Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike
Allocation of 20 per cent of the federal budget to education
Recertification of teachers, reformation of education curriculum for more innovation and vocational skills
Invest in teachers training
Tailoring education curriculum towards innovation and entrepreneurship
Free secondary education in public schools.
