Benue State University Students Drowned

Tragedy struck Benue State University (BSU) community as two of its students drowned in River Benue.

The incident was said to have happened when the deceased students alongside three others went swimming in the river.

The deceased students, a boy and a girl identified as Adakole Christopher and Mson Emmanuella respectively were in 100 level.

The male student was said to be from the Computer Science student, Mson the female deceased was a student of College and Health Science of the same school.

It was gathered that the deceased students had embarked on the journey of no return when they alongside three of their friends had gone to play football by the riverside behind the school when the incident happened.

When done with football, the five students decided to move to the river to swim, incidentally, the current of the water was said to have increased pulling the students deeper into the river.

Three of the students were said to have managed to swim back to shore while the two other got drowned.

The three students were said to have run back to the campus and raised an alarm which further alerted other people as well as the security unit of the institution to the scene.

The University Management through the security unit as well as Marine Police immediately launched a search and rescue operation to rescue the two missing students.

Remains of the male student, Christopher, was said to have been found floating on the river while the search was still on to find the other student at the time of this report.

The spokesman for Benue State Command, DSP Catherine Anene confirmed the incident.
