Another record has been set at the University of Ibadan. Today, the award of doctor of philosophy (Ph.D) in educational evaluation (early childhood education) will be conferred on a veiled woman, Motunrayo Kafilat Oyaremi, by the institution.
Her research work was on girl-child education in the north. Mrs Oyaremi is the first veiled muslim to bag a Ph.D from the institution.
This is coming at a time many people, especially Nigerian muslim women, put a stop to their educational pursuit after becoming a ‘Niqobite’ ( a veiled muslim ).
The 39-year old had graduated from the institution’s department of theatre arts in 2005, going home with a federal government scholarship as the best graduating student.
She later enrolled for a postgraduate diploma in education after which she bagged a master’s degree in early childhood education.
As a playwright, she has written a number of children books majorly plays. She runs a Nursery and Primary School: Milestone School, Ibadan.
