A Niqobite Sets Record at University of Ibadan

Another record has been set at the University of Ibadan. Today, the award of doctor of philosophy (Ph.D) in educational evaluation (early childhood education) will be conferred on a veiled woman, Motunrayo Kafilat Oyaremi, by the institution.

Her research work was on girl-child education in the north. Mrs Oyaremi is the first veiled muslim to bag a Ph.D from the institution.

This is coming at a time many people, especially Nigerian muslim women, put a stop to their educational pursuit after becoming a ‘Niqobite’ ( a veiled muslim ).

The 39-year old had graduated from the institution’s department of theatre arts in 2005, going home with a federal government scholarship as the best graduating student.

She later enrolled for a postgraduate diploma in education after which she bagged a master’s degree in early childhood education.

As a playwright, she has written a number of children books majorly plays. She runs a Nursery and Primary School: Milestone School, Ibadan.
