Again, Nigerian Universities Fail to make World’s Top 1,000 List

Written by Elvis Boniface

Nigeria has again performed poorly in global ranking of universities with none of its higher institutions making the world’s top 1,000 list.

The United States alone has eight universities in the top 10, the ranking done the Centre for World University Rankings show.

Harvard University came first while Stanford University ranked second, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

University of Cambridge came forth; University of Oxford came fifth, while Columbia University emerged the sixth best university.

The University of California, Berkeley, ranked seventh, University of Chicago ranked eighth while Princeton University ranked ninth and the University of Cornell ranked 10th.

The highest ranked university in Africa was the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, which ranked 149th followed by Mansoura University in Egypt which emerged 988th.

In an earlier ranking done by Journals Consortium, only one Nigerian university made it to the list of top 10 African universities.

Nigeria’s University of Ibadan came a distant eighth on that list, beaten by six South African schools.
