Written by Akeem Alao

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will commence by August this year, and end by the first week of September.

According to the examining body, there will be modalities attached to the writing of the examination due to the guidelines given in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

While disclosing this in a statement released on Saturday July 4, 2020, the council explains that timetable for the examination will be released next week.

It added that the results of all candidates will be released on the 45th day after the last paper has been taken.

“All five (5) members of Africa taking the examination (Nigeria, Gambia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia) will all start the examination together.

“Candidates are to arrive at the examination center an hour before the commencement of the day’s payment, as lateness will not be tolerated,” the statement reads.

The Council further noted that facemasks have been made compulsory following the outbreak of COVID-19. It stressed that no candidate will be allowed into the examination hall without a facemask.
