Early Marriage: Basic Education of Girl-Child Compulsory – Ganduje

Written by Akeem Alao

The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Kano has disclosed plans to legislate a law that compels the girl-child to complete secondary school before marriage.

While disclosing this in Kano on Tuesday 11th February, 2020, SUBEB Chairman, Dr Danlami Hayyo Ungogo, stated that research findings had shown that girls’ education had impacts on their marriages.

“The proposed law will help to increase the literacy level among the girl child in the state,” Hayyo stated.

“The law was long overdue because most of the children especially girls at the primary or junior secondary school get married before finishing,” he added.

He also said that if the law was established, it would help to produce girl children in all fields of work.
