The management of Ekiti State University EKSU, has announced the approval of the payment of 20,000 to each student in the French department.

This was disclosed on Thursday April 16, 2020, in a statement issued by the institution’s Director of information, Mr Bode Olofunmuagun.

According to the statement, the funds aimed at cushioning the economic effects among the students who are undergoing an academic exchange programme in Lome, Togo and Cotonou, Benin Republic.

It notes that the students are currently facing hardships in terms of feeding and other upkeeps due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

“This was donated as a form of palliative to cushion the ripple effects of the pandemic and lockdown situation on the students,” the statement explains.

“The Management empathises with the students and has approved a sum of ₦20,000 to each of them.

“Arrangement has therefore been concluded to credit the individual accounts of all the students for them to access the fund without further delay,” it adds.

It was clearly explained in the statement that the money given to the students never replaces the role of their parents on them.

The statement further notes that the academic programme embarked upon by the students is part of the requirements that French students must fulfill before graduation.

“This has been the practice for a long time. The onus is always on the parents of the participating students to cater to the feeding and other financial needs of the students, while the University Management provides logistics such as facilitating the institution of the academic programme” the statement reads.
