This was disclosed during the online consultative meeting the Federal Ministry of Education held with all Commissioners of Education of the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, the proprietors of private schools, and Chief Executives of examination bodies.

As contained in the statement released after the meeting on Monday July 27, 2020, it was agreed that the terminal classes “should resume immediately after the Sallah break, from August 4, 2020.

“Students will have two weeks within which to prepare for the West African Examinations (WAEC) due to start on August 17, 2020,” the statement reads.

It added that the resumption would enable the students prepare for the WAEC examinations.

The meeting also made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and public spirited Nigerians for assistance to schools.

It stressed that the assistance would enable them fast track the preparations for safe reopening, as agreed.

Another meeting is to be convened tomorrow between the Federal Ministry of Education and Chief Executives of examination bodies namely; NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS to harmonise their examination dates, which will be conveyed to stakeholders expeditiously by the Federal Ministry of Education.
