Two organisations, the Omoluwabi Support Group and Oranmiyan Worldwide, have described critics of the Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s school reclassification policy as “mischievous and selfish”.
Leaders of OSG and OW, Mr. Kayode Tinubu, and Dele Ogunsakin, respectively stated this at a briefing in Osogbo on Thursday.
The briefing was to announce Inter-Unity Schools Debate to commemorate the 57th birthday of Aregbesola.
According to them, the reclassification policy is a decision made to better the education sector.
Ogunsakin particularly said the winner of the debate would spend one day with the governor in office.
The groups noted that the governor meant well with the policy, saying there were some schools with a fewer number of pupils and more teachers.
He said the policy would ensure that human and material resources matched the number of pupils for optimal performance.
According to him, the critics of the policy are bereft of idea on how to move the state forward.
Ogunsakin said, “The Inter-Unity Schools’ Debate comes handy not only to educate the public on the governor’s philosophy on education, but also to enlighten the pupils and other stakeholders on the intrigues to paint the state black.
“It is also to acknowledge education restructuring system which has proved to be more result-oriented, given the state’s huge investment on education.”
The groups added that politicians stoked the controversy to poison the minds of the people against the government’s education policy.
