JAMB UTME/DE 2023: Here’s all you need to know

The body responsible for regulating admission into higher institutions, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced sale of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) application documents for candidates in Nigeria and in foreign countries.

Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria for the 2023/2024 academic session.

JAMB UTME/DE 2023 Registration Period

UTME Candidates only

The registration period for the 2023 JAMB UTME candidates in Nigeria and in foreign candidates runs from Saturday, 14 January 2023, and ends Tuesday, 14 February 2023.

PIN vending for UTME ends on Tuesday, 14 February 2023, while registration closes on Friday, 17 February, 2023.

DE Candidates only

Direct Entry (DE) candidates are to have valid and functional personal email address before commencing the application process.

The registration period for DE application commences Monday, 20 February, 2023 and ends Thursday, 20 April 2023.

DE candidates are required to note that registration for DE application would only be at the Board’s state and zonal offices.

JAMB UTME/DE 2023 General Entry Requirement

UTME Candidates only

The general requirement for admission into First Degree, National Diploma (ND), National Innovation Diploma (NID) and Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes are five (5) O’level (SSCE, GCE, NABTEB etc) credit passes in subjects including English Language. 

This is in addition to a credit pass in Mathematics which is required for Law, Social Science and Science-based programmes.

DE Candidates only

Direct Entry (DE) candidates with any of the following qualifications may be considered for admission:

  • A minimum of O’level passes in five (5) SSSC subjects at not more than two sittings with two prescribed subjects for each programme.
  • Two passes (in prescribed subjects for each (programme) course of study at the A’level Examination awarded by IJMB, Cambridge, JUPEB or institute of Baccalaureate with 3 credit passes in the SSSC.
  • Credit passes in two major subjects in NCE with 3 other credit passes in SSSC, NTC/NBC (mainly for technical and education programmes).
  • Minimum of credit grade in University Degree/National Diploma/Nation Innovation Diploma with the appropriate O’level grades.

JAMB UTME 2023 CBT Date

The computer-based UTME test will be conducted between Saturday, 29 April 2023, and Monday, 12 May 2023.

JAMB UTME 2023 Mock Date

Thursday, 16 March 2023, has been fixed for the conduct of the optional mock UTME.

JAMB UTME/DE 2023 Fee

The registration form is 3500 naira flat rate. (Do have it in mind that banks may charge you a token for bank service fee.) 

For candidates from the 9 eligible foreign centers, the fee is $20.

The breakdown of the fees for JAMB UTME/DE 2023 is as follows:

  • Registration Fee: 3,500
  • Compulsory Reading Text: 500
  • Service Charge for Registration: 700

This brings the total fee to 4,700 naira. 

Candidates who show interest in the optional mock would be required to pay an additional sum of N1000 service charge for CBT centers for the conduct of mock examination at the point of registration.
