Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission, has commenced a 5-day capacity development training for 90 Basic Education Quality Assurance Officers on new teaching techniques and classroom evaluation that will enhance learning in the basic education sector.

The Executive Chairman, LASUBEB, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King, disclosed this on Thursday August 20, 2020, at the training workshop for officers under the Y2016 Teachers Professional Development on Teaching Adaptive Techniques.

Wahab said the training was aimed at ensuring that basic education quality assurance officers in the State are updated with modern techniques and technology for learning and teaching.

“The training is aimed at reinforcing the officers in classroom management techniques, adopting new teaching techniques and classroom evaluation that will enhance pupils learning in the basic education sector,” Wahab said.

He added that the training will also ensure that the beneficiaries adopt best global practices in line with LASUBEB’S mandate of upscaling and improving the skills of its teaching personnel.

“We have realised that manpower development and capacity building are essential in improving learning and teaching outcomes,” he added.

While noting that LASUBEB has adopted a Cluster System for quality control, the Chairman stated that officials of LASUBEB will henceforth be in charge of coordinating schools within certain specified areas in their localities.

“We all cannot be in the schools at the same time, so officers in a particular area will supervise and control what happens in school classrooms”, he said.

The Chairman disclosed that the Board is not only monitoring the primary school content but character, attitude and behaviours of the teachers, in order to encourage and support the officers in delivering their duties diligently.

In his remark, the Permanent Board Member in charge of Basic Education Quality Assurance, Mr. Dayo Israel, called on parents to take advantage of the Board’s teaching and learning platforms on electronic and social media to encourage their wards to learn while at home due to the temporary closure of schools.
