No fewer than 10 secondary school teachers in Enugu State have been dismissed from service, following their acts of misconduct.
While about 200 teachers have been suspended, 500 others have had their salaries delayed as a punitive measure to sanitise the state’s education system.
This was disclosed on Wednesday 14th August,2019, by the Chairman, Post Primary School Management Board, Mr. Nestor Ezeme, when he received the State Assembly House Committee on Education in his office.
Ezeme said that the present administration was determined to intensifying efforts in order to correct the rot in the state’s educational system and the board had been tasked with supervising and monitoring of teachers.
“Part of our job is supervision of schools, discipline of teachers and students, payment of their salaries, among others,” he said.
“Our main duty, however, is supervision and we go for that three times a week. We visit schools unannounced and take the teachers and principals by surprise.”
“In some cases, the principal will make arrangements whereby some teachers come on Monday, others on Tuesday and so on. But we have changed all that now,” he explained.
