Novena University: NUC Approves Medical Sciences, Others

A private university situated in Ogume, Delta State, Novena University, has been given approval to upgrade its College of Medicine and some courses in public health.

The approval, which was sought in order to properly utilise the $66,000 grant received by the university to run a research on acute diabetes disease, is to afford the university the opportunity to successfully run programmes in its School of Basic Medical Sciences in Doctor of Optometry (OD), Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Laboratory Science, Pharmacology, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Dentistry, as well as to harness its enormous resources to provide internationally standard quality education.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday 13th August, 2019 about the approval, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Godwin Nduka stated that the university got the approval after NUC’s inspection of the university’s facilities.

“The National Universities Commission approved Medical, Law and post graduate programmes for Novena University after a successful verification visit to the university’s human and material resources,” he said.

“Novena University has also got the NUC approval to run its College of Law. It has equally achieved 100 per cent in the last accreditation exercise carried out by the National Universities Commission. According to him, the Ph.d. approval under Public Health, covers Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health and Safety, Hospital Administration, Environmental Health, and Community Health,” he added.
