The supervisor for Education in Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon Abdulateef Akinsemoyin, yesterday distributed JAMB forms to the youth within the LCDA.
The event, which took place at Kajola Health Center, on Ayonuga Street, Fadeyi Lagos was attended by theChairman of the LCDA, Hon Rasaq Olusola Ajala. The chairman applauded the initiative of Hon Abdulateef Akinsemoyin.
“You wouldn’t know the value of what you have done today. Your name will be written in gold because by the time the beneficiaries will become important people in the society, they will definitely remember you for good,” He said.
He stated that what stood him out as a councillor in the early years of our democracy was his distribution of free GCE forms at the time when the rigours of obtaining the forms were seriously unbearable.
He leveraged the opportunity to advise the beneficiaries to change people’s narration about Mushin/Odiolowo Ojuwoye which some view with negative lens.
He said some of the beneficiaries would surely become important people in our society.
He therefore advised that, “The youth must be hardworking and should read well so they can excell in their studies.”
He also announced the commencement of Free JAMB Tutorial which will start next Monday 4th February, 2019 at Danmegoro Street in Mushin.
Reacting to the question threw to him on what prompted him to do the programme, Hon Prince Lateef Akinsemoyin, said he premised his activities on 3 “S”, Service, Sacrifice and Selflessness.
He said he had observed that many students donot go further after their secondary school education and he felt that it might be as a result of financial incapacity to obtain JAMB forms; hence, his decision to feel the vacuum. He said he actually guessed right because out of the 200 forms purchased, over 400 students applied to benefit from them.
Reacting to the modalities involved in the selection of the candidates, he said the students must be residents of Odiolowo Ojuwoye LCDA, must have 5 credit pass in his/her O, level results, which must include English and Maths. He / she must be able to provide a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC )
He said those who had attained 18 years of voting age were first considered, followed by those whose parents have PVC and relatives of the beneficiaries who have the cards in that sequence.
He said it was done to bring about political consciousness among the youth and make them active politically.
Reacting to the question of doing the same programme with the Chairman, Prince Akinsemoyin said there is a difference in what the chairman did because the JAMB forms shared by the Chairman is basically for those who passed the GCE organised by the Council, while his is open to all eligible Candidates in the local council development area.
He said he did it to compliment the efforts of the Council.
Answering question on how he was able to raise the funds, he said it was as a result of his passion to give back to the society and leverage on his goodwill to people. I
He concluded by encouraging the beneficiaries to make him proud by studying hard to pass the exam and get admission into the University.
