Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu has disclosed that promoting reading culture among Nigerians would help the country confront its economic challenges.
Shaibu who spoke in Benin City at the launch of a book entitled “The Broken Hedge” lamented the declining reading culture among the people stressing, “If Nigeria must exit the club of the third world countries, its people must embrace reading and writing.
He said, “The key to success is nothing secret; it is all in the books and you only have to read to discover it. So for me, Nigeria has the potential to become one of the top 20 economy in the world if only we could look through the books and see how others succeeded.”
Shaibu said the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki was committed to make Edo one of the most developed states in the country.
“Part of our strategic plan is to encourage reading among the people, especially the youths. This account for the reason why we are working hard at resuscitating libraries across the state,” he stated.
