Lagos State Government has ordered a shift system in all the state schools in order to enforce social distancing and control the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

While issuing the order on Saturday January 16, 2021, the state Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said all state schools would maintain the shift system introduced last year when they reopened for the first term of the year.

He said the system will continue in order to control the spread of COVID-19.

According to the system, the students in SS1 and JSS3 classes will go to school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while those in SSS 2 and JSS 2 go on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

At the primary school level, the pupils were divided into two categories. The first set will go to school on Mondays and Wednesdays and for about three hours on Friday morning.

The other set will attend school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and for three hours on Friday afternoon.

The system is aimed at avoiding large gatherings and to enforce social and physical distancing as part of the measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

It was reported that pivate primary and secondary schools will not observe the system because they are not as congested as public ones.
