The Sokoto State University (SSU) has promoted no fewer than eight academic staff to the rank of professors and senior lecturers.

This development is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Sokoto by the spokesman of the institution, Zayyanu Shehu.

Mr Shehu explained that five of the academic staff were promoted to the rank of professors while the other three were promoted to senior lecturers.

He said the promotion cut across different disciplines that include Chemistry, Hausa, Computer Science, Arabic, Biological Sciences, and Education.

“Those promoted include: Dr Muhammad Sirajo and Dr Mansur Ibrahim, both as Professors in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry while Dr Mansur Aliyu is now a Professor in the Department of Computer Science.

“Others are Dr. Aliyah Ahmad, who was elevated to Professor in the Department of Nigerian Languages; and Dr Sirajo Muhammad as Professor in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies,” he said.

Mr Shehu further listed the promoted senior lecturers to include: Dr Adamu Abdullahi, Dr Nasiru Katami and Dr Bashar Sa’adu.

He quoted the SSU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bashir Garba as saying that the promotion followed its endorsement by the governing council of the university and recommendations by their respective external assessors.

Mr Garba rejoiced with the promoted staff for attaining the milestone, while assuring that the institution would continue to motivate staffers to be committed to duty.

He further encouraged other members of staff to be more alive to their responsibilities, adding, “The University is determined to have thoroughly trained staff who can advance teaching, research, and community service.”
