A lecturer in the Department of Zoology in the University of Calabar, Professor Edet Ekpenyong was kidnapped this morning.
Professor Ekpenyong was on his routine jogging exercise from the varsity’s staff quarters to the Abraham Ordia stadium.
Sources in the institution say there was intense shooting before the gunmen whisked Professor Edet Away.
The Public Relations Officer to the University, Effiong Eyo did not take his calls when contacted.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Irene Ugbo said the Police has not confirmed the kidnap yet.
This comes exactly 1 year and 1 week after a senior staff in the School of Medical Sciences, Dr. Simon Ndifon was kidnapped on the night of March 2, 2016 by gunmen who invaded the staff quarters.
The institution is currently planning for its 30th convocation ceremony slated for tomorrow (Saturday) with the likes of Sokoto State Governor, Honorable Aminu Tambuwal to be awarded doctorate degrees (Honoris Causa).
