UNILAG Hands over Site for New D.L.I. Building

The University of Lagos Management, on Friday, December 30, 2022, handed over the site for the construction of a new building for the Distance Learning Institute (DLI), to Wekan Construction Company Limited.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, disclosed this on Friday December 30, 2022.

While seaking at the site handing-over ceremony which was held at the open ground close to the DLI Main Building, FAS stated that “the project another bold step by the university management towards creating the right ambience for both staff and students.”

She cautioned the contractor against variation either in quality or standards.

Prof Ogunsola noted with pride, some of the architectural monuments on the UNILAG campus which have stood the test of time to includes the iconic Senate House, the J. F. Ade Ajayi main auditorium, the Jelili Omotola Multipurpose hall and the University Library among others.

She therefore harped on the keenness of UNILAG management on developing enduring buildings and quality accessories.

In their separate remarks, Project Consultant, Williams Johnson Nigeria Limited represented by Engineer Olatunbosun Shamsudeen and Mrs. Folake Akande who spoke on behalf of the Project Construction Company, Wekan Construction Company Limited assured that the project will be delivered to specification and without compromise on quality and standards.

Highpoint of the event was the formal signing of the Project Site Handover Certificates and Building Plans by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, the Director of D.L.I., Professor Uchenna Udeani, alongside representatives of both the Consulting firm and the Contractor.

The new building, which will be an additional structure to the Distance Learning Institute (DLI) of the University of Lagos, is V-shaped, comprising 2 slanted buildings with the space between as courtyard for the complex.

The first phase of the project is a 3-storey building with the Ground floor comprising 6 classrooms, an entrance foyer, one office, stair halls and conveniences.

The first and second floors would each comprise 4 units of partitionable office spaces, 2 video conference rooms, 2 offices, conveniences and stair halls while the second floor has an additional boardroom and kitchenette.

The third floor is made up of 6 office spaces and a boardroom while the second phase of the project will be a Lecture theatre.

The expected time of completion is 44 weeks.
