Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi has emerged the Vice-Chancellor of the Nigerian British University.
The institution appointed the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the University of Port Harcourt as its pioneer VC.
The appointment of Fawehimni, a nephew to the late human rights lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, which is effective from April 3, will last for a period of five years .
A letter dated February 16 and signed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Governing Council of the Nigerian British University, Dr Chukwuemeka Umeoji, welcomed the new vice-chancellor to its management team.
The Nigerian British University which is a private conventional university is located at Kilometre 10 Port Harcourt – Enugu Expressway.
The university is poised to develop global competitiveness by employing technological innovation to ensure practical and relevant academic experiences.
The institution was officially inaugurated on Friday February 17, 2023, by the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu.
Fawehinmi, a Prof. of Clinical Anatomy and Biomedical Anthropology at UNIPORT, is well rooted in the finest academic traditions and has wealth of experience in institutional administration having been Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) between 2016 and 2020.
Fawehinmi who was recently cited in the 2021 Africa Scientist Rankings by the Alper – Doger Scientific Index, has been an active member of national and international professional associations and had served as Secretary-General and member of the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Medical Association (Rivers State) from 1999 to 2000.
He was Editor–in–Chief of the Journal of Anatomical Sciences and President of the Society of Experimental and Clinical Anatomists of Nigeria (2014-2016).
Fawehinmi has over 80 articles in reputable peer-reviewed mostly indexed journals.
